How To Stay True To Your Inner Punk Child During Summer
Is it really so difficult to stay true to your inner Punk child during summer, especially when Aunty Bree’s farm house decorated temperature gauge hits the high 40’s? Some would say Yes! and be done with it; while others would be only too happy to argue the point for days, if not weeks, on end. But one question remains dogmatic: how does one stay true to their inner Punk child during summer?
Well, one could successfully argue that staying true to your Punk ethos during any and all weather conditions is what makes a Punk chick, well, a Punk chick. Because, truthfully, being fierce is an every day occurrence, right? But being fierce versus perspiring buckets through your beloved Punk clothes are not the same thing. Nor is it particularly wise to don your favorite heavy-duty Punk leather jacket and scuffed combat boots when the temperature gauge is hovering close to the nuclear red zone.
So, how does one stay true to their Punk child when its hot as Hades outside? Worry not, dear friends, there’s plenty of ways to rock that fierce Punk look even during our sizzling summer months. Here’s a few handy tips on how to #StayPunkCool on a dime, and with some spare time.
Quick Tips: How To Stay True To Your Inner Punk Child During Summer
1. Scissors Meet T-Shirt

Why not try slashing your old Punk tees a little when the hot weather hits? There’s nothing more refreshing than instant ventilation! Snipping your tee a little here, and a little there doesn’t require a degree in creative arts. What it does require is courage and a willingness to give the new look a go. So why not grab a pair of scissors from the kitchen and start showing off your new design skills? A quick snip here, a quick snip there and side cuts, hem fringes and purposefully distressed knots will soon turn your old Punk tees into something truly cool.
2. Shorts
Yep, you read that right. We like to wear shorts whenever we can but don’t tell our boss that! Wearing shorts when you style them with a pair of fishnet tights, or maybe colorful stockings to brighten up the office can make those hectic summer days a near stroll through the waterfall gardens! You can even try a #huggalicious jumpsuit, just to rock the boat, and team it with killer high heel Punk shoes. Best yet, versatile addons can be expertly teamed with your favorite pair of Punk shorts during those cooler winter days.

Or you can do what my co-worker did and simply buy a new pair of Punk shorts and let your inner Punk Wild Child reign supreme by adding sparkles and glitter – hey, we Punk Girls can so rock that! If you prefer to wear denim, you could rub sandpaper against the fabric to give it that distressed look or fire up the hot glue gun and add some diamantes and/or stick-on rhinestones. Safety pins, metal cone rivets, eye and hooks, and slinky chains will also ramp up the Punk in Punk Chick.
3. Sneakers

Okay, so combat boots are my thing but I’ve since learned that heavy sole boots can be uncomfortable during the sweltering hot Australian summers. Heat can be excessively depressing when it comes to our sock encased feet, especially when its uber hot. When the body retains excessive heat for lengthy periods of time this can be a major health issue! On the flip side, aesthetically speaking, no one wants swollen ankles, feet or legs when common sense tells us to wear lighter, airier shoes.
Thick sole boots are the perfect coil for cold weather as they will keep your pretty little toes dry and sweat free when stomping through heavy rain and snow, even mud! But for those lovely summer days, and nights, maybe reaching for lighter, airier footwear is probably a no-brainer.
4. Accessories

Accessories are an important part in any gal’s life but, more importantly, its selecting the Right Accessory that will make or break your fierce Punk style. A plain white tee can give a great Punk look when worn with the right accessories. Studs, safety pins, chains, skulls, coffins, razors blades (dulled, of course!), fabric dyes and hand woven threads are all you need to step up your Punk look. If DIY is not your thang, then why not invest in a super studded sling bag or belt, or wicked stud decorated cropped denim jacket? You could even try a studded headband to jazz up your Punk look. There’s plenty of excellent choices that are super cheap to buy.
5. Men Can Rock A Fierce Summer Look Too!

It’s true that women have more clothing and accessory options to ramp up their summer Punk look but guys, too, can achieve success when on a tight budget. Or better yet girls, the next time your boyfriend or brother yells at you that he has nothing to wear, why not help him out by cutting off the sleeves on an old Punk tee and showing him just how Punk trendy he can be?
You could do the same to his denim jeans – a quick snip here, a snip there, and bingo! He’s got himself a brand new pair of Punk shorts. To finish off the new Punk summer look just accessorize with chunky metal skull chains, a leather bracelet or two, some wicked jewelry and you’ve transformed him into the lead singer of a Punk Rock band!
6. Go Black or Go Stay Home

Sure, it’s hot as Hades during the Australian summer months but a Girl can still wear black. So next time when you’re debating in front of your wardrobe on what not to wear, why not pop on some black mascara and eyeliner, then polish your nails with super glossy black lacquer so you have time to think about how you can beat your besties in the Punk Style Awards. Teaming an all black assemble with some groovy skull and coffin styled jewelry and demonic rings and sparkly accessories will transform even the most vanilla office attire into something Punk fierce.
